After Destiny: The Contemporary Landscape is a show I have been thinking about since I wrote my art history graduate thesis on the relationship of three contemporary American painters (Will Cotton, Ben Edwards and Rackstraw Downes) to the 19th century Hudson River School painters. I decided to explore and expand contemporary concerns raised in my thesis group of painters, as well as consider photography and the photographic reference for paintings. The exhibition is at Flanders Gallery in Raleigh, NC from 27 July- August 30 and includes Alberto Borea, LaToya Ruby Frazier, myself, Cameron Martin, Mary Mattingly, Ellen Phelan and Xaviera Simmons. To read the essay I wrote for the show, visit Flanders Gallery here.
